Welcome! My name is Rachel and I am so glad you are here. My content focuses on home baking from scratch with high quality ingredients and classic techniques. I love writing, developing and photographing the content on Baking with Rachel.
Growing up in rural Iowa, mom baked bread every week for our family. By my early teens, I took on the role of baker in the family, namely by keeping the cookies stocked for my dad to take for lunch. I felt the simple joy of sugar and flour combining to create smiles.
Married and working an office job, baking fell by the wayside. Then, with two small children in tow, we made a big change and moved our family to Seattle. I decided to stay at home instead of working out of the house for the first time. Suddenly, alone with only children to talk with during the day, I discovered local food blogs and began to bake again. Butter, flour and sugar reminded me of what I desired for my family and home.
The passion for baking continues to grow. I worked as the head baker at a local coffee shop, assisted on a cookbook and developed content for Ballard Extracts.
